How it works
Every Wednesday, I will draw a piece of paper from this hat:
Whatever is written on that piece of paper will determine the topic of the blog post for the following Wednesday. While my housemates and visiting friends are more than happy to throw in their own ideas, I feel it’s just not enough, so I would like to get suggestions from the widest possible pool of people.
In a nutshell, I am outsourcing the task of coming up with ideas for posts by asking you, a representative of the Internet, to submit ideas to me, the blogger.
What makes a good submission
You are free to submit whatever idea you would like. If an idea is inappropriate, it will be dismissed. As far as what qualifies as inappropriate, if the idea could not be considered “family friendly” in any way, it may run the risk of dismissal.
Ideas can be specific or vague. They can be coherent or nonsensical. Maybe a particular topic or current event appeals to you, or maybe you feel like throwing a curveball that even you don’t understand. Just keep in mind that I will approach each idea from my own perspective, having no context outside of what is stated in the submission. I might take the subject in a way unintended by the writer of the original idea, either because I feel a certain way toward it or because it is the approach that I feel is most likely to generate an interesting post.
Also, try to keep submissions short. They don’t even need to be a sentence long, just a handful of words at most. Each one will be written on a scrap of paper – we like to mix the old-fashioned with the new here – so paragraph-long submissions will most likely be summed up in a way that may or may not reflect the original intention.
How to submit an idea
Chances are you don’t live at my house, so you do not have access to the physical hat. If you do live in my house, thanks for visiting my blog, but what are you doing here?! In any case, you can fill out the submission form below.
Name and e-mail are not necessary, but if you would like to be mentioned in the post when your idea is selected, be sure to at least include your name.
